Coopernook

Coopernook began the way many of our favourite projects do — through a personal referral. Christine’s son, a landscape architect, had worked alongside Luke and Josh before, and it was his introduction that brought the Masons to Blitz. The block itself was the drawcard: an elevated position with water glimpses toward Port Hacking, home to a tired 1960s house that had well and truly run its course. It was livable, but far from viable to renovate — so together, we made the call to start again.

Christine grew up in this part of the Shire, and Coopernook marked a return to the area she calls home. With their children grown, she and Stephen were building purely for themselves — a bright, easy, low-maintenance retreat for this next chapter.

Working with Futureflip, Coopernook was designed around a simple brief: a bright, white, airy home with a relaxed modern coastal feel. Clean board-and-batten cladding continues from the exterior straight through the entry hallway, drawing the eye up toward the skylights beyond. Vaulted ceilings and a run of skylights turn the kitchen, dining and living zone into the true centre of Coopernook. Wherever you stand in the main living zone, there’s a sightline back out toward Port Hacking.

The alfresco, outdoor kitchen and pool turn the backyard into a genuine extension of the home. As the sun goes down, considered up-lighting through the garden beds and stairs turns the whole backyard into its own inviting space to entertain. This is not just a home to look at. It is a home to live in.
